Hypnosis is a completely natural state of mind, comparable to daydreaming and
being in a profound state of relaxation.
Contrary to what we're led to believe by stage
hypnotists, generally you do not feel hypnotised and you certainly will not lose awareness or
control, in fact quite often people report a feeling of heightened awareness and a feeling of
deep calm and relaxation.
Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis combined with
behavioural and cognitive therapies to help gain new attitudes and new ways of thinking about
things. This is achieved by bypassing the conscious mind which can reject new ideas even when
they are ideas that will help.
The subconscious mind is reached by using
hypnosis, allowing it to accept new ideas readily if they are beneficial.
Psychotherapy is the art of enabling people to
master their psychological problems through helping them understand the causes, and to
develop new patterns of thought , feelings and behaviour. This is done through discussion,
analysis and teaching. Although it is not an essential part of the process, hypnosis can also
be very helpful in speeding up the process of psychotherapy.
